Request an OPT STEM Extension
Thank you for taking the time to contact the Office of International Student Services about your plans to apply for the STEM extension, request a seven month extension to your current STEM extension, or respond to an RFE received regarding an existing application. In order for ISS to verify your eligibility and prepare the new required I-20, please complete this form to provide the required information about your STEM opportunity. After submitting this form, ISS will review the material and contact you when your new STEM OPT I-20 is ready. The only reason why ISS would contact you prior to the new I-20 being ready is if there are are questions/concerns about your application materials.
If this is your FIRST time submitting a STEM extension application:
Since USCIS will only accept STEM extension applications when a current OPT period is within 90 days of expiring, ISS follows the same timeline. Please do not submit this request prior to 90 days of the expiration date of your current OPT period. The expiration date of your OPT period appears as the end date on your EAD card. If ISS receives an application that is submitted too early, we will neither accept it nor save it for processing at the appropriate time. It is your responsibility to submit everything in a timely manner.
Reminder: It takes 10-15 business days for ISS to review your paperwork and provide any necessary feedback. Please plan accordingly. USCIS' 60-90 day processing timeline begins after they receive your complete application, and does not include ISS processing time for the I-20.
If you have any questions regarding the updated rules and regulations concerning STEM extensions, feel free to contact ISS (email@example.com), or read about the changes here: https://studyinthestates.dhs.gov/stem-opt-hub
