Kindness Week 2019

Apr 12, 2019 by Carissa Ruf

During the hustle and bustle of being a student, we sometimes forget to acknowledge the small happy things in life! Beginning Monday April 15 through Thursday April 18 the Office of Health Promotion will be hosting Kindness Week to spread smiles and provide tips on how to increase kindness to self, others, and the planet!

Monday April 15th

Thank You MSU
Time: 12 - 4 p.m.

Location: Student Center Lobby

Do you have a faculty or staff member that has helped you out during your journey at Montclair State? Come write them a thank you note to express your gratitude for them. Whether it is an advisor, facilities worker, cashier, or professor, this table is all about saying “thanks.” No matter how big or small the gesture, appreciating the members that make this campus great is all this table’s about.

Tuesday April 16th

Fireside Chats: “Kindness 101”
Time: 11 a.m. - 12 p.m.
Location: Drop In Center

Cozy on up next to the ‘fire’ and reflect on what it means to be kind. Think about the last time you have spread or received kindness and how that made them feel.

Pop of Happiness
Time: 12 - 4 p.m.
Location: Sprague Library Lobby

Did you know talking about positive experiences with others can actually increase your happiness? The Office of Health Promotion wants to hear all about your joy! Join us in Sprague Library on Tuesday April 16th from 12-4pm to share ways that you have spread kindness, or get some tips on ways to increase positivity on campus. We will also be giving away kettle corn because we think you’re a-MAIZE-ing.

Wednesday April 17th

Studio DIY: Kindness Rocks
Time: 12:30 - 2 p.m.
Location: Drop In Center

Join us for our studio DIY, and help us create an environment filled with kind thoughts. Paint words of encouragement on one of our rocks and leave them in random places throughout campus for all to see!

Thursday April 18th

Fireside Chats: Self Care
Time: 1 - 2 p.m.
Location: Drop In Center

During our weekly fireside chat, we will be discussing the importance of being kind to ourselves and what we all do to practice self care.

Kind Cones
Time: 2 - 5 p.m.
Location: Drop In Center

Join us outside the Drop In Center to make a very special treat for the creatures around campus. We will have supplies to make a pine cone bird feeder for you to hang around campus to show our feathery friends some love and celebrate spring! There will also be human-approved kind cone treats for you to take. In the case of inclement weather, the event will be held inside the King Room at the Drop In Center.

BONUS: Be sure to follow us on HawkSync or Instagram (@msu_healthpromotion) to find out about our squishies outreach!
