WELCOME TO STEP YA GAME UPThis is the official step team at St. Johns University, Queens Campus. This organization is made up of a variety of people that are dedicated to perform 110% at every event that they do. We are planning to have many events on campus and perform in other places as well. Hopefully we will be well known throughout the metro region.
Message from founder Jason Goodridge: "Our main goal of Step Ya Game Up, also known as S.Y.G.U., Co-ed Step Team (created Spring 06) is to promote discipline and cultural unity through the form of stepping. Stepping is a type of dance that requires rhythm, creativity, and the movement of different body parts to make a certain rhythm. Even though stepping takes skill to do, we encourage everyone to come and try something new if they never done it before. Stepping is usually seen being done in Greek fraternities and sororities, but we are changing that up by making the team a non-greek step team. We intend on giving everyone the opportunity to be part of a step team without them having to be part of a Greek organization. But this does not mean that someone in a Greek organization can’t join Step Ya Game Up. If someone does not make the team, they have the option of joining one of the committees that will help the future success of the step team. We plan on having members on our fundraising committee, publicity committee, community service, and event planning committee which will benefit the growth of the team." "STEP HARD OR GO HOME"

If your organization has selective membership, please describe the selection process.
Our selection process is a three day tryout. The first two days (typically Wednesday and Thursday), SYGU will you teach you a full step. On the third day, you will audition both individually and with a group using the step we taught you. No stepping experience is needed, just a positive attitude! In order to join our committee, be on the lookout for our emails and weekly meetings. SYGU looks forward to seeing you!
