On Monday, February 13th, Women of Excellence inducted 74 new women into their organization. Many of the women come from different backgrounds, obtain high GPAs, and are also involved in many other student organizations on campus. WOX’s community service projects for the past month include: The MLK March, The 5K Race Cleanup, and St. Mary's Orphanage. During their visit to St. Mary's Orphanage, the women conducted various enrichment activities with the young women and donated over 200 feminine product’s that were collected during their previous “Feminine Product Drive” on campus.
In February, Women of Excellence helped sponsor a female high school senior for the Black Girls Rock Program, hosted by the African American Student Association. This high school student from John L. Leflore Magnet High School received a $1,000 scholarship due to the contrubutions of numerous organzations, one of them being USA’s Women of Excellence. One of WOX’s very own members, Kaitlin Bryant, was the chairwoman of this amazing program.
On Monday, February 28th, WOX hosted a Mardi Gras Table in the Student Center Mall for students to come and grab beads, make Mardi Gras masks, and learn history about the holiday. On Wednesday, March 1st, the organization hosted a table in which they passed out healthy snacks to USA students. Later that evening, WOX continued the healthy activities by hosting a “Work Out Event” in the Student Center Ballroom which was open to the public. On Thursday, March 2nd, WOX hosted their “Third Annual Silent Auction” which featured over 30 local Mobile businesses. All proceeds from the auction will be placed towards WOX’s numerous women empowerment programs and philanthropies. On Wednesday, March 8th, WOX collaborated with the men of Collegiate 100 and Career Services to host a "What Not To Wear Workshop" which aided students to learn how to properly dress for interviews.
In addition to their numerous workshops and outreach efforts around campus and in the community, 7 members of the WOX organization were selected to receive the 2017 “Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges Award” this March!
Women of Excellence strives to give back to the community and create events that will empower the women and students on USA’s campus. The organization's events and community service this past month exhibit the organization’s commitment to striving for excellence and promoting learning and well-being among the community. The Office of Student Activities is proud to award Women of Excellence the March Student Organization of the Month Award!
