The October Student Organization of the Month Award goes to the ladies of Alpha Kappa Alpha!
The ladies of The Epsilon Upsilon Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority have hosted a number of events this Fall semester which have been targeted to help students on campus, as well as serve the greater Mobile community. Alpha Kappa Alpha began their semester by passing out 60 “survival kits” to incoming students, which contained pens, pencils, as well as some candy to welcome them to our campus. AKA also hosted their annual “Freshman Sleepover” in the Student Center, which allows freshman to connect through crafting, bonding, and providing them with a platform to ask upperclassmen any questions they may have about USA.
Alpha Kappa Alpha believes in getting students involved and hosted an “Absentee Ballot Application Drive” this semester in which over 75 students competed ballots, ensuring that their voices will be heard. With the help of Jaguar Productions, the ladies of AKA also hosted a “Presidential Debate Viewing Party “ where they provided snacks and refreshments for attendants, as well as encouraged learning and constructive discussion among students.
In addition to AKA’s many on campus events, the ladies have also spent time volunteering at the Little Sisters of the Poor and Coastal Cleanup. On October 13th, AKA will be hosting a “Breast Cancer Carnival” to which students may bring an entrance donation of $5. All proceeds from the Carnival will be donated to the Mitchell Cancer Institute.
The Epsilon Upsilon Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority continuously strives to ensure that students on campus have their needs met and voices heard. Their admirable leadership, involvement, and service to our community is an asset to USA and the Office of Student Activities is proud to award them the title of ‘October 2016 Student Organization of the Month.’
