2019 Hispanic Heritage Month Student Planning Committee Application

 

Deadline to Apply: May 15th (11:30PM)

Interviews will be the week of May 20th.

Each year, Hispanic Heritage Month is observed from September 15 to October 15, by celebrating the histories, cultures, and contributions of those who ancestors came from Spain, Latin America and the Caribbean.
 

The Hispanic Heritage Month Student Planning Committee will be comprised of a group of USF students coordinated by the USF Office of Multicultural Affairs. This committee will be responsible for the planning and implementation of signature events, marketing and promotion, and the selection of programs that adhere to the mission of Hispanic Heritage Month.

The committee structure: 

General HHM Committee Member Responsibilities:

  • Communicating out to broader USF about involvement in HHM and programs
  • Communicate, Delegate, Support
  • Attendee all HHM Meetings
  • Research best practices for celebrating and educating Hispanic Heritage Month
  • Share marketing materials and promote Hispanic Heritage Month at USF and in the Tampa Bay Community 
  • Aid in areas most needed

Committee Position Descriptions: 

Secretary
Primary responsibilities include:

  • Take meeting notes and send out to all committee members within a week of meeting with what took place during the meetings
  • Read over meeting minutes and attendance records of HHM meetings
  • Read, understand, and verify that all notes from meeting minutes are completed before end date
  • Oversee the event submission process in conjunction with the Student Director
  • Help to formulate transition material in conjunction with the Student Director

Public Relations Director

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Report to Student Director
  • Meet with HHM Advisor
  • Ensure updates of all Social Media to promote Hispanic Heritage Month on Facebook and Instagram
  • Research Hispanic Heritage Facts to post daily on Facebook and Instagram during Hispanic Heritage Month
  • Create logistics for physical advertisement for HHM for USF campus; they should advertise for HHM Office Sponsored Events
  • Take pictures at all HHM events and post to social media within 24 hours
  • Provide updates on OMA Facebook reach/shares/likes to the committee 

Event Coordinators
Primary responsibilities include:

Kick-Off Coordinator 

  • Report to Student Director
  • Meet with HHM Advisor
  • Coordinate the decorations, use theme, and look of the event
  • Create an effective way in which to deliver the concept of: Empowerment and success within the Black community
  • Create an opportunity for students to network with Hispanic/Latinx professionals by inviting key faculty members and university constituents to attend event
  • Coordinate with HHM Advisor and student director to send out invitation letters to key faculty, staff, and students of USF
  • Work with Public Relations Director for promotions for this event
  • Coordinate student organization participation/performances
  • Create a “Day of Show” including layout and logistics
  • Create  transition material outlining your position including schedule, notes, and other important items
  • Research best practices for celebrating and educating Hispanic Heritage Month

Hispanic Heritage Celebration Awards Breakfast Liaison (Event is already scheduled for October 1, 2019) 

  • This position will be done in coordination with HHM Advisor and The Status of Latinos Presidential Advisory Committee 
  • Send out invitation letters to students of USF
  • Work with Public Relations Director for promotions for this event
  • Communicate with departments and organizations for the Showcase that happens before the breakfast
  • Create an opportunity for students to network with Hispanic and Latinx professionals by inviting key faculty members and university constituents to attend event
