Administrative Hospice Volunteers: The administrative hospice volunteer performs administrative tasks essential to operating of the local hospice. The administrative volunteer responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
- Maintaining confidentiality regarding information on patients and families
- Assisting with mailing, filing, answering the phone, putting together packets for patients, families and referral sources
- Creating newsletters, data entry and other tasks involving the computer system
- Making phone calls as requested by staff
Direct Hospice Volunteer: The direct hospice volunteer will be responsible for providing direct patient and/or family care in the home of patient care facility. The direct hospice volunteer responsibilities vary according to sub-specialty. A direct volunteer who interacts face-to-face with a patient or a caregiver served by the hospice. A direct volunteer may be cross-trained to perform several roles or may choose to serve in a single capacity.
Patient companion volunteers, respite volunteers, on-call/vigil volunteers, reflections/life-review volunteers, bereavement volunteers, pet companion volunteers, birthday bakers, veteran certificate volunteers, companion artist volunteers, and specialist volunteers.
Creativity Volunteers: In addition to the formal volunteer opportunities listed above, AseraCare patients also benefit from the creative gifts of generous souls. These volunteer will make cards, grow and arrange flowers, create crafts, sew blankets, pillow cases or other items for the enjoyment of patients and their families.
Veteran to Veteran Volunteers: The Veteran to Veteran Volunteer Program aims to pair recruited Veteran Volunteers with hospice patients who have been identified as Veterans. Once paired with hospice patients who also have military experience, Veteran Volunteers have the unique ability to relate and connect with Veteran patients and their families.
