We are soon to start the Fall 2016 Semester, and we at the GGSO would like to welcome all of the new students to the School of Geosciences and USF! We are here to serve the graduate students of the School of Geosciences and the USF community by fostering social connections, educational outreach, field trips and professional development workshops.

New to GGSO? Come check us out at our monthly meetings or one of our events throughout the school year!
Our first appearance will be at the departmental orientation on August 17th! Look for us to announce our next events soon after, including a poster workshop and the favorite "Bad Science Movie Night".

Geography or ESP students: We are here for you too! Though our name doesn't reflect it very well, we represent EVERYONE in the School of Geosciences. We want you to feel included and look forward to hearing from you.

PLEASE remember to register on this OrgSync system. We need as many names on the roster as possible, as it ties in to our activities and paperwork with the Center for Student Involvement.

Welcome back, and hope to see you soon,

Matt Hayes, president

Description

The Geology Graduate Student Organization (GGSO) is an academic organization designed to meet the unique needs of graduate students of the Department of Geosciences at USF. With the recent merger of the departments of Geology, Environmental Science and Policy, and Geography our mission of connecting and serving the graduate students within our School is more important than ever.

While the primary responsibility of GGSO is to the graduate body of the Department of Geology, its activities are open to students, staff, and faculty members from all academic levels and interests. Aside from promoting friendship and networking among the graduate body of the department, GGSO provides educational workshops, field trips to sites of geologic interest, and community and campus outreach projects.

We also provide an active voice for grad students in departmental affairs, and work to foster beneficial connections with faculty, alumni and undergraduates. We provide a representative at the monthly meetings of the Geology Alumni Society (GAS), one of the premier alumni organizations at USF, and a group that plays an active role in mentoring students and preparing them for successful careers as geoscientists. GGSO often works in cooperation with our sister organization, the Geology Club, which is focused on undergraduates and is open to anyone in the student body who has a general interest in geology.
