Glee Club Auditions in September

Jul 7, 2014 by Deirdre A Bennett

To the incoming Class of 2018:

Hello!  My name is Cristelle Sens-Castet, I’m a senior and the current president of the Fairfield University Glee Club. Let me be one of the many people to congratulate you on your decision to attend Fairfield University!  We couldn’t be happier to welcome all of you into our community.

While you’re thinking about all the exciting opportunities Fairfield has to offer, I’d like to give you some information on the Fairfield University Glee Club, and why it’s something you should consider joining in the fall.

The Glee Club is the oldest and largest club on campus, with over 125 male and female members of different majors and class years.

The Glee Club has performed in churches, schools, and concert halls across the United States, Canada, and Europe. There is one domestic concert tour every fall to a major city along the East Coast, as well as a European Concert Tour every two years during spring break. This past March, we spent nine days taking in two beautiful and historic European capitals: Berlin, Germany and Prague in the Czech Republic. In the spring of 2012, the Glee Club took its talents through Italy, including a performance at the 5 pm Sunday Mass in St. Peter’s Basilica in Vatican City.

The Glee Club is currently entering its 68th season of music, and its director, Dr. Carole Ann Maxwell, is one of the pre-eminent choral directors in the U.S, who stretches our musical talent in choosing a diverse selection of repertoire. Mozart, The Beatles, Leonard Bernstein, John Rutter, and The Black Eyed Peas are just some of the artists from across the years whose music we have performed in concert programs. There are approximately six Glee Club concerts on campus each year. These performances remain popular with the Fairfield University community and the surrounding community of Fairfield County.

Auditions are set to take place September 1st, 4th, and 5th from 4-6 pm, and September 3rd, 8th, and 10th from 4-5 pm. The Glee Club will also have a table at the Activities Fair on Friday, September 5th, to answer any questions you may have.

Glee Club rehearsals are in Gonzaga Auditorium, located right behind the Stag Statue, every Monday and Wednesday from 5:30-7 p.m.

I’ve given you a lot of information about Glee Club, but I haven’t gotten to the best part, the students who comprise our wonderful chorus!  Being a part of Glee Club gives you the opportunity to be a member of a close-knit community of over 125 of the nicest and most talented people on campus. There are many members of Glee Club who are Magis Scholars, NSLs, athletes, members of FUSA, and much more. We all come from different backgrounds, but what makes our community special and more of a family is our passion for singing, and the close friendships formed by making music as one cohesive group.

If you’re looking for a fun and easy way to get involved at Fairfield University, the Glee Club is definitely the place for you. If you have any questions, please email me at: cristelle.sens-castet@student.fairfield.edu; I’d be happy to assist you and answer any questions you may have about our prestigious club!

The Fairfield University Glee Club hopes you have a wonderful and safe summer.  We look forward to seeing you in the fall!

Sincerely,

Cristelle Sens-Castet ’15
