Processional begins at 3:50 pm
(Please arrive by 3:15 pm)
On behalf of the Office of Undergraduate Education, I formally invite you to participate in University Convocation on Sunday, August 26 at 4:00 pm in the Activity Center. University Convocation, the first step in a student's academic journey at UT Dallas, is the official welcome for all incoming freshmen and transfer students.
As the peers of these incoming students, you have an influential role in their socialization into the campus culture. I ask that you attend the University Convocation ceremony to demonstrate your support of our efforts to emphasize the importance of valuing community and social responsibility above individualism. Dr. Jean M. Twenge, co-author of the summer reading selection, The Narcissism Epidemic, will deliver the keynote address focused on the academic theme for 2012-13: COMMUNITY VS. INDIVIDUALISM: CAN THEY CO-EXIST? During the ceremony, we will also announce the launch of the student food pantry (the Comet Cupboard) on campus, which will serve as a new service-learning component of the undergraduate experience at UT Dallas.
New incoming freshman and transfer students will be in the stands while faculty, student leaders, and staff will participate in the processional. Student leaders and staff should dress in seasonally appropriate business casual attire. Please submit the University Convocation RSVP Form online by Aug. 17, so that we can plan seating. A link to the form can be found at: http://oue.utdallas.edu/special-programs/university-convocation/. To participate in the processional, please arrive outside the racquetball courts by 3:15 pm. The ceremony will last approximately one hour, followed by the Welcome BBQ sponsored by Student Affairs, in the mall area outside of the Student Services Building.
Thank you for taking time from your last day of summer to welcome the incoming undergraduate class to UT Dallas.
