On behalf of the School of Hotel Administration, welcome to the Leland C. and Mary M. Pillsbury Institute for Hospitality Entrepreneurship. Since its founding in 2006, the institute has been connecting the academic and the practical through a variety of entrepreneurial programs. Operating around three core facets—education, engagement, and experience—our goal is to support students on their entrepreneurial journeys.
The success of the institute can be summed up with one word—connections. Through the Connect Entrepreneurial Hotelies Mentor Network, Meet and Repeat Speed Networking events, Entrepreneurs in Residence program, and Pillsbury Faculty Ambassador program, students engage with industry leaders, faculty, and alumni to test out business ideas, seek career advice, and develop relationships with mentors. With a growing entrepreneurial narrative across Cornell University, new entrepreneurship courses have been created in support of the newly established entrepreneurship concentration at the School of Hotel Administration.
The mission of the Leland C. and Mary M. Pillsbury Institute for Hospitality Entrepreneurship is to support the academic entrepreneurial curriculum of the School of Hotel Administration. There are three core facets to the foundation of our operations: education, experience, and engagement.
We offer student-focused, practical entrepreneurship course offerings that link the academic and the practical at both the undergraduate and graduate level. The courses are designed to provide an analytical framework for students pursuing an entrepreneurial venture.
We guide experiential learning. We create business-plan centric programs to help students obtain experience to reinforce learning, since a good business plan provides a solid foundation for the future growth of a business and subsequently drives economic development and innovation in the dynamic hospitality industry.
We engage with entrepreneurs at all stages of ideation. Most members of our network have a direct tie to the hospitality industry— either as students, faculty, alumni, entrepreneurs, or innovators. We leverage the support of our Advisory Board and Entrepreneur-in-Residence Program to drive outreach, assure relevancy of our programming, and ensure we are embracing new trends in the hospitality industry.
We measure our success based on your long-term success. We look to supporting your entrepreneurial scholarship as you engage with The Pillsbury Institute to make a difference in the hospitality industry.
