2017 Homecoming Parade Sign-Up: Community, UNT Departments, and Non-Judged Student Groups Only

This form is only for Community, UNT Department, and Non-Judged UNT Student Group Parade Entries. If you are on a student Homecoming Team participating in the Team Competition (Scrappy Cup and/or Spirit Cup), please click here to submit a different form.

Information and Suggestions

  • The Homecoming Parade will be held on Saturday, November 11, at 11:00 am
  • The deadline to sign up to participate is Wednesday, October 25, at 11:59 pm
  • View the 2017 parade route here 
  • Information about the check-in location, line up, and parking will be sent to the contact person prior to the Parade
  • Judging, for those entries desiring to be judged, will begin at 10:00am
    • Judging of entries will be completed by 10:45am 
  • Signage should be at least 24" x 36" to be seen from a distance
  • Costumes are encouraged! Participation, enthusiasm, and spirit is important to show while judging and during the Parade. Remember, this is HOMECOMING! Have fun!
  • Please call 940-565-3807 or email before 12:00pm on Friday, November 10th, if you must cancel your entry


  • All entries must check-in prior to the start of the parade
    • For judged entries, check-in is between 9:00-10:00am, with judging starting promptly at 10:00am
    • For non-judged entries, check-in is between 10:00-10:30am
      • Your entry must be set up and ready to go by 10:40am
  • Only those entries that have pre-registered and check in at the designated line-up area will be allowed to participate; units may not join the route in progress
  • A group/team representative must remain with your entry at all times
  • For judged entries, group/team members will not be allowed to speak with judges
  • The maximum height of each entry is 10ft from the ground, and the width of the entries should not exceed 8ft; the length shall not exceed 40 feet, including the pulling vehicle
    • These dimensions ensure that no telephone or electrical wires along the route will be damaged, and that all entries are able to make the necessary turns throughout the route
  • Each entry is limited to one pulling vehicle
  • The City of Denton does not allow semi-tractors with a trailer
    • Teams/groups may use semi-tractors, but not when pulling a trailer
    • Trucks pulling gooseneck style trailers are allowed
  • One entry per group/team, one vehicle per entry!
    • In the event an automobile or pick-up truck is used as an entry, there may be only one (1) vehicle for each team or group (e.g., a truck with trailer is one entry, a truck with float is one entry; one team/group may not use three convertibles to carry their representatives; a car and a pick-up truck cannot represent one team/group)
  • Items (including candy and confetti) may not be thrown from your entry
    • This is a safety precaution to prevent children from running into the street and to reduce litter in the streets, as the City will charge UNT for clean up
    • People walking alongside an entry may distribute items to the crowd by handing them to spectators
  • No alcohol will be tolerated
    • Consumption of alcoholic beverages at any time while in the parade lineup or on the parade route will be cause for immediate removal, disqualification, and possible exclusion from participation in next year’s Homecoming Parade
  • For safety reasons, any entry with children must have an adult on the entry to supervise
  • Entries may not advertise alcohol distributors, bars, or similar
  • This is a family event:
    • No music containing vulgar, explicit, or suggestive/inappropriate lyrics will be tolerated
    • Entries must not convey any vulgar or inappropriate material
  • Entry designs must be respectful towards all other teams and schools, etc. 
  • All vehicular entries must be mechanically propelled so they can keep the proper interval, which is approximately three car lengths behind the preceding entry/group, to be maintained throughout the parade
  • All entries with animals must be approved by Student Activities in advance and provide cleanup of animal waste immediately behind the entry
  • All entries that desire to have hazardous materials must be approved by Student Activities in advance and provide clean up, if applicable, immediately behind the entry
  • Failure to follow all polices, rules and regulations are grounds for removal from participation and/or competition, and may result in charges for cleanup/damages
  • Student Activities/Homecoming Crew reserves the right to prevent an entry from participating and disqualify it if they feel it is not in the best interests of UNT, the City of Denton, or the spirit of Homecoming

Judging Criteria

Judging will be based on the following criteria:

  1. Adherence to rules
  2. Originality/Creativity
  3. Integration of theme, “Deep in the Heart of UNT”
  4. Mean Green Spirit (enthusiasm and spirit)
  5. Craftsmanship (safety, materials used, sturdiness, etc.)
  6. Attractiveness (colors, shapes, neatness, etc.)


Winners will be announced before the Parade and banners will be given out so that the winning entries can display them during the Parade. 

  • McConnell Spirit Award: Awarded to the most outstanding entry from a department at the university
  • McAdow Walking Unit Award: Awarded to the most outstanding non-band walking/marching entry
  • Community Award: Awarded to the most outstanding community entry
