Western Sydney Women making a Splash in World Sport
Aug 25, 2017 by Brendan Hoey
Western Sydney University is celebrating after two elite athletes claimed exceptional results in international competitions recently.
At the 29th Summer Universiade (World University Games) Brittany O’Brien, Australian Diver and WSU elite athlete, won Silver in the 10m synchronised platform with dive partner, US-based, Emily Meaney. The pair had only partnered up 3 weeks prior to the event making the result even more remarkable. Following this, she put in a strong performance to finish 5 in the individual 10m platform and Brittany then took the platform again to pair with Nicholas Jeffree (University of Technology Sydney) for the mixed synchro final, where they finished fourth.
Additionally, WSU Elite Athlete Ellen Jones was recently been crowned the F2 Class World Champion at the World Water Skiing Racing Championships in Seattle. Jones is now considered a two time world champion after winning the junior woman’s title last year.
