A new class available this fall offers upper-level OU business school students the chance to manage real money. Students accepted into the Special Topics: Managing Investment Funds (FIN480/CRN44752) course will have access to manage more than $1 million under the guidance of Finance Professor Ranadeb Chaudhuri. An advisory board of financial professionals with real-world fund management experience will lend their expertise, insight and feedback.
In the course, Student Investment Managers will gain practical security analysis techniques and investing approaches used by professional investment managers. The student manager will be responsible for researching and analyzing companies while searching for investment ideas.
“Here is an opportunity to trade with real money, and it’s a course that’s never been offered before,” says Phillip Johnson, Finance senior, one of the first to apply and enroll in the course. “The course will help me understand the actions that CEOs and CFOs take to maximize values for shareholders.”
The course is ideal for students seeking careers in investing, portfolio management, financial analysis and related financial service industries.
Seats are limited. Enrollment in the course must be approved by the instructor. Students who have completed both ACC 301 and FIN 322 by the start of Fall 2015 are eligible to apply. The course will meet Wednesdays, 1-3:20 p.m. To apply for consideration for the course, please complete and submit the form here.
