Welcome to Camp Kesem at University of Miami!

Camp Kesem is a student-run nonprofit organization that serves the needs of children with a parent who has or has had cancer.

Camp Kesem's main program is to plan, fund, and host a week-long summer camp for kids coping with a parent's cancer.  Student leaders at the University of Miami serve as counselors or executive board members to offer a week of camp that allows these kids to just be kids again.

With over a million cancer cases a year in the United States, there are over 5 million kids affected by a parent’s cancer. The support is there for grown-ups; but the special emotional needs of children of adult cancer patients have been overlooked. Simply put: kids are often left to deal with these personal tragedies on their own.

This year, Camp Kesem at the University of Miami plans to serve 140 campers and raise over $140,000 for two weeks of camp. Camp Kesem is always looking for motivated, passionate and fun students to be a part of our organization.

Description

Camp Kesem provides a peer-based support system, anchored in a network of free summer camps, for children impacted by a parent's cancer. Led by the passionate efforts of college students across the country, Camp Kesem provides what these kids need most: support, courage, empathy, and fun, as they face realities no child should have to face. Camp Kesem was founded at Stanford University in 2000 and has grown rapidly, with over 100 chapters across the country.

Student leaders at the University of Miami serve as volunteers to plan, fundraise, and host a free week-long summer camp for kids coping with a parent's cancer.

With 1.7 million cancer cases a year in the United States, there are over 6 million kids affected by a parent’s cancer. The support is there for grown-ups, but the special emotional needs of children of adult cancer patients have been overlooked. Simply put: kids are often left to deal with these personal tragedies on their own.

Camp Kesem is always looking for motivated, passionate and fun students to be a part of our organization.
