Fraternity and Sorority Program Fee Waiver Application 2018-2019

This application is for individuals seeking a fee waiver due to financial hardship reasons. Please complete the application in its entirety and see the below information regarding the FSL Administration Fee.

During the spring 2016 term, the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life worked with the presidents of the fraternity and sorority governing councils and chapters to develop a long-term funding model that will be supported through a Fraternity and Sorority Life Fee. The purpose of this fee is to provide the members of fraternities and sororities with a sustainable advising and programming model to create a membership experience that is congruent with both the university’s and the organizations’ mission, purpose and values. This fee will be assessed to affiliated students each fall term on their tuition bill throughout the duration of their membership in a fraternity or sorority at the University of Oregon.

How Will the Fee Be Used?

The Fraternity and Sorority Life Fee will allow the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life to be a self-funded office, and the money generated will go towards providing increased staffing, training, and developmental programs for the over 3,500-member community that comprises 17% of the campus population. The Fraternity and Sorority Life Advisory Board, comprised of students, alumni, faculty, will assist the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life in making strategic decisions on programming initiatives from the money generated by the fee each year. The non-refundable fee will be $100 per year in 2016-2017 academic year. More information about how this fee will be used can be found in the FSL Committee on Staffing, Support and Budget report.

When Will I Be Charged?

Returning members will be charged when bills are released in Fall term. During the first term of membership for students joining or transferring into an organization in the Panhellenic Council or Interfraternity Council, the charge will be made on their tuition bills in fall term. Students participating in the Membership Intake Process for the Multicultural Greek Council and National Pan-Hellenic Council will be charged during their first full term of membership due to the timing of Membership Intake during the previous term. If a student resigns or has their membership terminated in the middle of the year, or if an organization is suspended by the university for violations of the Student Conduct Code, they will not be charged the following year. What if I terminate my membership? The fee is non-refundable for any students who officially accepts their bid and begins their new member education process or any student who does not terminate their membership and notify the Office of Fraternity & Sorority Life by Friday of Week 1 in the fall term.

What if I am not enrolled at UO for the entire academic year?

The fee is not prorated based on early graduation, study abroad, etc. Fraternity & Sorority members remain on the chapter’s official roster and are billed for their council membership dues for all terms of enrollment with UO.

How to Apply for a Fee Waiver?

Students that experience economic hardship or financial need should complete an application for a fee waiver.
