Welcome to the UM Civic Scholars Program page!

The Civic Scholars program is geared towards students with a passion for civic and community engagement and volunteer service.  There are certain requirements students must fulfill in order to become Civic Scholars, and they accomplish these throughout their entire undergraduate career. The program and its requirements are meant to help students gain first-hand experience by working with the Miami community while applying the lessons they learn in the classroom to real-world situations. Upon completing the program’s requirements, the students will receive a certificate of achievement, transcript notation, and recognition at the Celebration of Involvement. Most importantly, Civic Scholars will graduate with valuable work experience, a better awareness of the people, positions, and issues in their field of work, and an understanding of the ways that they can use their newly acquired degrees to make an impact in their communities.

In order for a student to enroll in the Civic Scholars program, they must join the Civic Scholars OrgSync page and enroll in the program's Blackboard page. After a student submits a request to join the OrgSync page or fills out the Enrollment Form (located in the Feed tab), the Program Coordinator will contact the student directly.

Volunteer Opportunities

Please describe your volunteer needs here. Include where UM students will serve, what they will be doing, and the time commitment required. Please account for each volunteer position individually. This is what students will see when they are searching for volunteer opportunities, so it is to your advantage to be as specific and detailed as possible.

The Civic Scholars program will work to connect you to volunteer opportunities with local Community Partners.
