2017 WSU Service Day of Remembrance
Weber State University Service Day of Remembrance will be held Sept. 20 for all students, community members, faculty and staff to serve the community in honor of someone who has passed away or for those who embody service in the community.
Sponsored by the Center for Community Engaged Learning (CCEL), events begin in the Shepherd Union at 7:30 a.m. with a light breakfast and free T-shirts for the first 60 people in the Shepherd Union room 232 (Center for Diversity and Unity). If you are unable to attend the morning orientation, instructions will be given at each site regarding details and recording service hours.
Participants are responsible for transportation to the two off-site locations or can choose to remain at the Ogden Campus for on-campus service projects.
There are three projects to choose from:
Ogden Nature Center (966 W 12th Street, Ogden)
10-15 volunteers from Weber State University will work with 75 students in their senior year from the DaVinci Academy to restore natural habitat, clear invasive weed species and learn about sustainable ways to improve and protect the environment.
Habitat for Humanity (multiple locations)
The first is the home build, which is located at 129 and 141 30th St. The lots are side by side. This location will need only about 20 people.
The second location is 517 W 2200 S. This project needs about 50 people. They will be painting a two story log cabin,a garage, and a shed.
The third location is 3002 Wall Ave. This project needs about 30 people. They will be doing some painting on the house and the garage, as well as minor outdoor repairs to a porch and two sets of stairs.
WSU Ogden Campus (Shepherd Union Room 404 or Community Garden south of Wildcat Village)
For those unable to attend the off-campus projects or need a project that can adapt to different abilities, please attend the on-campus projects.
- Up to 20 volunteers to create cards for veterans and first responders.
- Up to 20 volunteers to assemble miniature rockets for Fathers Investing Time.
- Up to 20 volunteers to revitalize and clean up WSU Community Garden (south of Wildcat Village).
All volunteers will meet in the Center for Diversity and Unity (Ogden Campus room 232) for orientation before heading to project sites. If you are unable to attend the morning orientation, instructions will be given at each site regarding details and recording service hours.
