Student Government Association - RSO Financial Awards

Club Programming Committee (CPC)

The Club Programming Committee is a joint initiative designed and developed by the Student Government Association and the Dean of Students Office. Support for the managing of the program is provided by Student Involvement.  SGA has made significant funding available for student organizations to request.  These funds are intended to afford Recognized Student Organizations (RSOs) the opportunity to contribute to the quality of campus life by sponsoring events that may not be possible without this financial assistance.  Requests should demonstrate how funding an initiative would inspire a vibrant campus life and an engaged student body.  Every request received will be reviewed by the CPC on a case-by-case basis.  CPC is composed primarily of students who will decide what requests best support student life and therefore should receive funding.  All awards will be processed as a University-issued check, which requires that your RSO have an outside (i.e., non-University bank account); SGA no longer issues reimbursements for past expenses. If your request receives final CPC Committee approval, contact Janice Day at jsday001@louisville.edu or 852-5787 for instructions on how to receive your award. If your funds have not been claimed by the last day of the corresponding semester, they will be forfeited. Please direct all questions to the Club Programming Committee Chair.

DEADLINES 3:00 pm: Fall Events: April 15 and September 15 Spring Events: November 15 and January 15

SGA Senate Travel Scholarship Fund

The SGA Senate Travel Scholarship Fund is money that the Student Senate has set aside to help defer travel expenses for undergraduate and professional students within Recognized Student Organizations (RSOs) who are attending conferences, academic competitions, and non-varsity/non-intramural athletic competitions outside of the Louisville metropolitan area.  All awards will be processed through Financial Aid as a scholarship; SGA no longer issues reimbursements for past expenses.  If your request receives final Student Senate approval, contact Teresa Smith at t.smith@louisville.edu or 852-1621 the day after the Student Senate Meeting for instructions on how to receive your award. If your funds have not been claimed within 14 days of returning from the trip, they will be forfeited. Please direct all questions to the Appropriations Committee Chair.

Deadline: Submit this form at least 48 hours prior to the next Appropriations Committee meeting

SGA Special Project Funds

The SGA Senate Special Project Fund is money that the Student Senate has set aside to sponsor Recognized Student Organizations (RSOs) needing funding for one-time special projects, particularly non-capital projects like special events and programming for the student body at the University of Louisville. The fund shall not be used for start-up costs, ongoing administrative costs, or ongoing annual events. Durable goods, such as computers and equipment, shall remain the property of the Student Government Association, and as such, requests to fund these particular purchases may receive additional scrutiny.  All awards will be processed as a University-issued check, which requires that your RSO have an outside (i.e., non-University bank account); SGA no longer issues reimbursements for past expenses. If your request receives final Student Senate approval, contact Teresa Smith at t.smith@louisville.edu or 852-1621 the day after the Student Senate Meeting for instructions on how to receive your award. If your funds have not been claimed within 14 days of this contact, they will be forfeited. Please direct all questions to the Appropriations Committee Chair

Deadline: Submit this form at least 48 hours prior to the next Appropriations Committee

Please review the following information before completing the application.

  • Off campus events may not be funded.
  • All organizations must have an EIN number and an outside bank account before applying for funding.
  • If your RSO receives direct operating funds from SGA, requests must be for events co-sponsored with another RSO.
  • Special projects receiving support from the Club Programming Committee (CPC) are ineligible for support through the Special Projects Fund. NO "double-dipping" with several SGA funding sources will be allowed.
  • Graduate, non-professional students must apply for travel funds through their respective councils. NO "double-dipping" with several SGA funding sources will be allowed. If any of the guidelines are violated, your organization may forfeit the opportunity to apply for SGA funds again.

In order to qualify for these funds, your organization must:

  • Have sent a representative to the RSO Mandatory Meeting
  • Be a student officer in the Recognized Student Organization.  The requester can represent more than one RSO as long as all groups are in good standing.

  • An event brochure or link to the event's website.
  • A budget for travel, including estimated travel expenses (such as transportation, lodging, and food for each person traveling).
  • Your RSO's annual budget, or a list of any financial resources that it may use to cover expenses related to your travel (as a Microsoft Excel file, or a file that can be readily opened in Microsoft Excel).
  • Any prior SGA funding your RSO has received this academic year

For Travel and Special Project requests, in addition to meeting the requirements listed above, a representative of your RSO must attend the next Appropriations Committee meeting, to deliver a 2-5 minute presentation about the special project or travel for which your RSO is seeking funding. The committee chair will notify you of the meeting location prior to the meeting itself, using the email address you provide in this form. These meetings will begin at 6:30 p.m. in Law School Room 075 (located in the basement) unless you are notified otherwise. If you miss the deadline, you must wait for the next committee meeting; this may cause a delay in your application.
