MLK Event: Starkville Church of God Food Pantry Distribution
“Life’s most persistent and urgent question is: ‘What are you doing for others?" January 19, 2015 will mark the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. federal holiday. This milestone is a perfect opportunity for Americans to honor Dr. King’s legacy through service. The MLK Day of Service empowers individuals, strengthens
communities, creates solutions to social problems, and moves us closer to Dr. King’s vision of a beloved community. The MLK Day of Service is a part of United We Serve, the President’s national call-to-service initiative. It calls for Americans from all walks of life to work together to provide solutions to our most pressing national problems. Honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s Enduring Legacy of Service – make a pledge to volunteer throughout the year!
This year for MLK Day, students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to volunteer at a local food pantry and offer assistance to those in our community that do not have enough to eat. Then, after volunteering their time to sort and pack food pantry items, or distribute items to those in need, volunteers are encouraged to attend an America’s Sunday Supper and discussion on Interfaith and Hunger at Trinity Presbyterian Church on Sunday, January 18th from 4:00pm-5:45pm.
