Welcome to the Pirate Peers Advocating for Learning and Success (P.A.L.S.) Mentoring Portal!
ECU Pirates P.A.L.S. make it a mission to serve children of Greenville by being tutors and mentors and reading buddies that educate, invest in, and inspire future generations of leaders.
The vision of this program is to increase the academic skills and performance of elementary students within Greenville and the surrounding area.
Design for Change Mentor League
A new mentoring opportunity this semester is the Design for Change Reading Circle, in which a group of committed volunteers will work with about 10 students at the Police Athletic League South Greenville location who are having difficulty reading at grade level. Volunteers will read through a Dr.Seuss book and lead activities and reading comprehension lessons with the students which allow them to not only improve their reading comprehension skills, but also identify problems in their community they would like to change and develop plans for how to implement solutions to said problems. This group will be meeting every third Friday of the month (1/26, 2/23, 3/23, and 4/20) and due to the intimate nature of the mentoring group, we ask that volunteers commit to attending all four dates.
