Welcome to the ECU Reads/Counts!
ECU Reads/Counts is a student-led program within the Volunteer and Service-Learning Center and collaborates with the Wellness Living Learning Center. It is a program that recruits, trains, and places volunteers to serve as tutors and mentors at the 2014 community sites of the Boys and Girls Club and East End Elementary.
This volunteer opportunity provides tutor training workshops, matches local students with tutors, and schedules tutoring times. This program focuses on expanding the academic skills and performance of elementary students within the Eastern North Carolina region. Through this partnership with fellow educators and community partners we hope to help address the issue of education and support youth in our community on their educational and personal journey. Preparation of volunteers and ongoing reflection are key components of the program.
Jarvis Boys & Girls Club: This is an after school program located at Jarvis Memorial UMC in downtown Greenville, which is within walking distance from ECU’s main campus. The grade levels of children who need to be tutored range from kindergarten to fifth grade. The tutoring time is from 3 pm to 4 pm, and students are tutored Mondays-Thursdays.
This is an opportunity for service-learning students to serve as ECU Reads/Counts tutor. Please review expectations and applications can also be found under forms.
