Thank you for your interest in Adopt-A-Grandparent, a student-led program through Leadership and Service-Learning Center at East Carolina University!
Our Mission: Adopt a Grandparent is an opportunity for ECU students to build meaningful relationships with residents of the MacGregor Downs Health and Rehabilitation Center by establishing long-term one on one interactions with them. Our goal is to let these residents know that although they are older, they are not forgotten.
How to get started:
1) Contact the Center for Leadership and Civic Engagement (CLCE) at ECU about your interest. CLCE is located in Mendenhall Student Center (MSC) Room 109, or you may call 252-328-2735 or email Ms. Aleix Murphy at email@example.com. 2) Apply and receive a criminal background check from the police station. These are free and have been approved by the senior living facility staff. 3) With your background check in hand, attend a Volunteer Orientation Session held every Thursday at 4pm at MacGregor Downs Health and Rehabilitation Center (MDHRC). 4) Don't forget! Check OrgSync for opportunities to interact with other residents and help with AAG events!
