Parking Permits!

Jul 26, 2016 by Travis R Tafoya

Dear UCCS students:

As Fall 2016 semester is rapidly approaching, it is once again time to start selling fall parking passes.  Permits go on sale beginning Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at 8:00a.m.   Reserving permits online is a requirement for students.  You will be given the options of reserving a permit and picking it up (and paying) at a later time at the Parking Office, or paying online and having the permit mailed directly to you (an extra postage fee of $4.00 will apply).  Permits are required to be displayed by the first day of fall classes, Monday, August 22.  Permits are sold on a first-come, first-served basis, so hurry and register online on or after July 26.  Please don’t wait until the first day of classes!

New this year, we are adding a Z permit for those with temporary mobility disabilities (less than 120 days).  This close-in reserved parking is for those who don’t necessarily need a fully ADA compliant disabled parking space (e.g., a broken leg).  If interested, please contact parking for more information.

We are also excited to announce that our parking permits will soon be going virtual, made possible by a new parking management system called License Plate Recognition (LPR).  The entire LPR system is based on recording license plate information prior to students, faculty, staff, and visitors arriving on campus.  Essentially, your vehicle license plate becomes your parking permit!

This is a significant change for how permits are issued, so the new system will be implemented slowly and in several stages over the next several semesters.  Due to this extended implementation, many of the changes won’t be immediately noticeable to permit holders (e.g., physical permits will still be issued for this academic year and will still need to be displayed on vehicles to be valid).  Physical permits will serve as a redundant parking enforcement tool over the next year so that we may take the time required to pilot and implement this new system.  Our goal is that by Fall 2017, LPR will be fully implemented and physical permits will no longer be issued to students, faculty or staff.

Immediate changes that will be noticed this fall 2016:

  1. Upon registering for permit, providing license plate information will be a requirement.  Up to four vehicle license plates can be registered to a permit holder (in case you own or drive several different vehicles), but only one of the registered vehicles may be on campus at the same time.  At the time of permit registration you must identify which of the four vehicles will be your primary vehicle.
  2. Vehicles must be parked so the license plate is visible from the adjacent drive aisle.

Additional changes that will be implemented later in the fall semester:

  1. The hourly visitor pay stations will no longer require the display of a receipt or require entering a stall number.  Instead, the pay stations will ask for a license plate number upon payment.
  2. For those paying for hourly parking at one of our pay stations, extending time by smart phone will be an option.  For those who want to avoid lines at the pay stations, we will also be offering a pay by cell option so paying at pay stations can be avoided altogether.

Please visit our LPR FAQ webpage at for answers to specific LPR questions.  We look forward to improving your parking experience on campus and appreciate your continued support.  For any additional questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us at 255-3528 or email
