This semester's experience: Hunger and Homelessness in St. Louis
Alternative Weekend Breaks give you an opportunity to immerse yourself in service for a weekend and learn about a social issue facing Missouri's communities. During this experience, we will travel as a group to Saint Louis, get to know our team, do service on Saturday and Sunday morning, and reflect on the work we are doing and impact we are having on our state.
Alternative Weekend Break Information
When: Friday, November 4th @ 4pm until Sunday, November 6th @ 4pm
Where: Saint Louis, Missouri
Program Cost: $25.00 a person, which includes transportation, 2 nights lodging, service experience, and all meals.
Pre-Trip Meetings: The team will meet at least once prior to departure to meet each other as well as discuss logistics and projects. All participants are expected to attend.
Community Partners and Service Projects:
Saturday, Nov 5th: Gateway 180- we will be working with Gateway 180 to paint and fix up their facility so they can best serve the residents that utilize their homeless shelter.
Sunday, Nov 6th: Food Outreach- we will be helping with a cycling/food event called Cranksgiving by collecting and organizing food and helping out with the event. The donated food will go towards supporting Food Outreach's mission of providing food assistance to people living with HIV/AIDS and Cancer.
Corporate Partner: MYNAH Technologies- This trip offers a unique opportunity to work alongside and network with employees and representatives from MYNAH Technologies. MYNAH employees will be collaborating with us and joining us for our Saturday day of service with Gateway180.
We will fill our trips on a first-come, first-served basis. Until the cap is met, all applications received will be accepted to participate unless a student has outstanding disciplinary issues with the university. Applications received after the trip is full may be placed on a waiting list and will be notified if a participant drops out.
