Welcome to the Knight Raiders Chess Club. We are the reigning Final Four and National Collegiate Team Champions for 2011 and 2012! Our B and C - Teams are the Division III and IV, respectively, Pan-American Intercollegiate Team Champions for 2012!
We are a group of students, faculty, staff and community members who share a common interest in chess and education. We organize chess events that include regular meetings, tournaments and community outreach. We sponsor college student chess teams that compete in local, state and national competitions. We encourage and sponsor recruitment trips for our student members to national and state chess events. We have been closely associated with the Texas Tech Chess Program (formerly SPICE) and have organized many activities together including the now fabled SPICE Cup Tournaments. We will continue to support any and all chess activities on campus and in the local community such as outreach.
Anyone is welcome to join including absolute beginners! Annual dues are $30 and include a club T-shirt. However, anyone who requests to join must do so using their real name. Also when you request to join then tell us something about yourself. For example, if a student then what is your field of study (year etc.).
A note of clarification. The Knight Raiders chess club (a student organization) and the TTU Chess Program (a TTU department) are two separate identities with separate governance and budgets. The Chess Program has a facebook page that you can join but this does not automatically get you membership in the club. If you want to sign up for the club you must do so through us not the Chess Program only. Also is you perform service as a student organization member you must log that information with the Knight Raiders Chess Club.
Our purpose is to promote chess among students, faculty, and staff at Texas Tech University System and among members of the community at large. We will enable our members to play chess over-the-board (OTB) and over the Internet (OTN). We will conduct matches and tournaments (both unrated and USCF-rated), provide instruction to our members and the community at large (especially local schools). The club shall field a chess team for the University System in conjunction with the chess program at Texas Tech.
