Mission Statement

African Heritage Month is the celebration of a collective of many cultures that historically faced and overcame many obstacles. However, the planning committee of African Heritage Month 2009 will be focusing on the collective’s ability to overcome and achieve through a willingness to see past our differences, collaborate and unite. Through collaboration, one is able to recognize a common root; we all are of one community, with the same human bond, and the desire to endure. This month we will focus on continuing to put this theory into practice, on an individual level, within our NYU community and beyond. “Lifting as we climb”, helping those around us as we work towards our own ends, will help us to realize our common goals of prosperity, accord and understanding.
