The MSU Big Event is a one-day service event for the MSU and Starkville community to roll up their sleeves and GIVE BACK. On April 1 the Student Association and the Maroon Volunteer Center will gather student leaders, faculty, staff, and community members to leave their mark on the local community.
How It Works
Volunteers and groups must pre-register before the event. Volunteer leaders and individual volunteers MUST check-in on Friday, March 31st from 5:15pm-7:00 pm at the MSU Amphitheater to collect their t-shirt and meal ticket, receive volunteer instructions, and be officially checked in for the event. If you are an MSU student, faculty, or staff member, please do not forget your MSU ID. If you are not with MSU, just bring any form of photo ID. On April 1st, volunteer groups will head out to community service locations starting at 8:00 am.
Our goal for this year's MSU BIG EVENT is 1,001 volunteers - We need your help to make this happen.
Register now as an individual volunteer. Teams can also register their team name and reserve slots for their members by clicking "register" above. Teams MUST ALSO complete the BIG EVENT GROUP MEMBER REGISTRATION FORM so we can know the names and t-shirt sizes of members of your team. BE SURE TO RE-UPLOAD THIS DOCUMENT DURING YOUR REGISTRATION PROCESS! Please turn in all names and t-shirts by March 25. If you register after March 25th, you may not receive your service placement until after Wednesday, March 29th. THERE IS NO CHARGE TO VOLUNTEER. Questions? What is the Big Event?
The Big Event is the largest one-day service event at MSU. Students, faculty, and staff take 2 hours out of their day to volunteer in the local community.

When is the deadline to register?
If you register after March 25, you may not receive your team placement until after March 29th.

Will transportation be offered?
Transportation will not be provided. If you are an individual volunteer without transportation, you can email email@example.com and ask to volunteer with the Big Event Logistics Team.
Can I volunteer at the same place as my friend?
Yes, but please register you and your friend up as a group, so we know you want to volunteer together.
Does it cost to volunteer?
There is no cost to volunteer.
When do I need to check-in?
Volunteer check-in will be Friday, March 31st at the Amphitheater from 5:15pm-7:00 pm. At check-in, we will scan your ID card, provide you with a t-shirt, meal ticket, and volunteer instructions. All volunteers must attend check-in. We should have six check-in station opens, so the process should only take 15-20 minutes.
What are times available to volunteer?
The first shift is 8:00am -10:00am, the second shift is 10:00am-12:00pm. Please specify your preferred shift(s) when you register. If you are unable to volunteer before 12:00 pm, please email firstname.lastname@example.org for an afternoon project (space is limited).
What if it rains?
You should probably bring a rain jacket.
Will I get a t-shirt?
A t-shirt and lunch will be provided free of charge.
Is this event open to anyone or do you have to be from MSU?
Anyone can volunteer. You don't have to be a student.
Is there a minimum age range?
No. However, if you are planning to bring children with you under the age of 16, please let us know on the registration form so that we can be sure to assign you to a service site that welcomes children.

5:15 pm - Volunteer/group check-in tables open at the Amphitheater
5:15pm-5:25pm - Welcome and guest speakers:
5:25pm-5:30pm - Big Event volunteer instructions
Volunteer check-in will remain open from 5:30pm-7:00 pm for those that cannot make it at 5:15 pm. Please note that check-in is a very quick process and should only take about 15 minutes.
