Furman Powerlifters win medals at WNPF World Championships and Furman's Team named WNPF Team of the Year.

During the 2013 World Natural Powerlifting Federation (WNPF) Awards banquet, the Furman University Powerlifting Team was honored by being named Team of the Year. The Paladins won the National Collegiate Powerlifting Team Championship last February and won their 16th straight South Carolina State Championship. In addition, team coach Dr. Tony Caterisano was named WNPF Coach of the Year as well as Lifter of the Year in the Masters Division.
Three Furman lifters also competed in the 2013 WNPF World Championships in Philadelphia PA on November 10th. This was one of the largest international meets ever held by the WNPF. In addition to dozens of US teams there were teams from Brazil, Guatemala, Ecuador, The republic of Georgia, Canada, The United Kingdom, and Puerto Rico. Tony Caterisano (220 lb. Masters Division) won Gold Medals in the Bench Press (310 lb.), Powercurl (135 lb.), and Bench for Reps (16 reps of body weight) events. Matt Harrison (198 lb. College Division) won a gold medal in the Deadlift (465 lb.) and a Bronze medal in the Powercurl (140 lb.) event.
