Furman Powerlifting Wins 16th Straight South Carolina State Championship Title

Ever since the Furman Powerlifting Team began competing in the World Natural Powerlifting Federation (WNPF) in 1998, the team has won the South Carolina State Powerlifting title. This past Saturday on April 20th the team kept the streak alive, winning the Team Bench Press and Team Deadlift titles for 2013.
Individual winners were as follows (note the amount of weights lifted are in parentheses):
Freshman Taylor Sweeney won the Power Curl (140 lb.) and the Bench Repetition contest (13 reps) in the Collegiate 181 lb. Division. His Power Curl set a new SC State record. He placed second in the Bench Press (240 lb.)
Sophomore Aaron O'Neill won the Bench Press (255 lb.) and the Deadlift (410 lb.) in the Collegiate 181 lb. Division. His Deadlift set a new SC State record.
Junior Matt Harrison won the Bench Press (240 lb.), the Deadlift (425 lb.), and the Power Curl (155 lb.) in the Collegiate 198 lb. Division. His Power Curl set a new SC State record.
Sophomore Trent Pannell won the Deadlift (480 lb.), and the Bench Repetition contest (13 reps) in the Collegiate 220 lb. Division.
Junior Tank Phillips won the Deadlift (635 lb.), and the Power Curl (180 lb.) in the Collegiate 300 lb. Division. His Deadlift set a new SC State record. For his effort Tank won "lifter of the meet", an award given to the best overall lifter.
Head Coach and Master lifter Tony Caterisano won the Bench Press (315 lb.), Power Curl (150 lb.) and Bench Repetitions (21) in the Masters 198 lb. division. His Power Curl and Bench Repetitions set new SC State records.
