Attention volunteers: When you sign up for the opportunity, you will be required to go to the Club, complete a orientation packet and a background check before you can volunteer.

The vision at the Boys & Girls Club of Starkville (BGC) is for all the youth in our community to become self-sufficient adults. Our mission is to help our members develop the academic and life skills they need to complete high school and their first year of post-secondary education or training.

We serve youth in grades K–12 and separate them into 4 rooms:
 K-2 (45 members)
 3-4 (26 members)
 5-7 (33 members)
 8-12 (20 members)

We are actively recruiting fun, skilled and committed volunteers to tutor in each classroom daily. Tutoring is an on-going need and we are always looking to expand our volunteer family.

The ideal volunteer for the Boys & Girls Clubs is an engaging, high-energy, self-starter who has a passion for working with youth! The Club is a fun, active environment with lots of different activities taking place at a given time. While there are adult staff and work-study in each program area, they are often working with the youth and leading programs and are not always able to stop what they’re doing to provide volunteers with specific details on their activity. Successful volunteers are those that are able to jump in and help with whatever activity is taking place with minimal direction.

We need at least 5 volunteers in each room daily (Monday-Thursday) between 4:00PM to 5:30PM. Your primary role is assisting with homework or building foundation skills in various subject areas (quiz, trivia, flash cards, worksheets, interactive games).

K-4th graders do Homework Help/Power Hour from 4-5PM
5-12th graders do Homework Help/Power Hour from 4:30-5:30PM

Any organization, including sororities, fraternities, and individual volunteers that are interested and need some volunteer hours please contact Ms.King via e-mail

Your support will be greatly appreciated!

Volunteers must meet all of these requirements in order to become a tutor:

-Must be proficient in various subject areas
-Must be at least 18 years of age
-Must commit to at least a 1-hour shift
-Must complete a background check ($3 cost/cash only)
