Volunteer on MLK Day ~ Jan. 21~ 10:45 am
Do you or your group want to volunteer on MLK Day? Please register by clicking sign-up above. Community volunteers without OrgSync access can register using the Community Volunteer Registration Form. All service projects will be completed between 10:45 am – 12:45 pm. Volunteer instructions and service assignments will be assigned at the Unity Breakfast between 8:00 am and 10:00 am on January 21st.

Breakfast, transportation, and a t-shirt will be provided to all participants. Please note that buses will likely depart the Mill at 10:05 am-10:15 am to arrive at each service site before 10:45 am. If you need transportation please request it on the registration form. Volunteers will be assigned to their service sites at volunteer check-in at the Mill between 8am-10am on January 21st.

Frequent Questions:

1.) Can I register my team at one time instead of each of my members registering individually?

No. Each member of your team MUST register so that they can sign the waiver and provide us with contact info in case of a last minute emergency. Please tell your group/team members to type in their group name in the box provided on the registration form. We will do our best to put all team members at the same location, but we do encourage volunteers to try and meet new people during the day of service.

2.) Will all volunteers receive t-shirts?

The first 500 volunteers will receive t-shirts.

For those that did not get the volunteer instructions, I am copying them here! If you are volunteering as a team or group, we encourage you to check-in with as many of your group or team as possible, it will make it much easier for us to place you all at the same location. Service projects will begin on Monday, January 21 between 10:30am-10:45am, and will be completed around 12:45pm. Projects will begin immediately following the Unity Breakfast.

How to check-in on Monday
Check-in will take place between 8am-10am at The Mill Conference Center (100 Mercantile Lane, Starkville). If you are attending the breakfast and participating in the MLK Day of Service, please check-in between 8am-10am at the volunteer check-in location (follow the signs when you enter the Mill).

If you are an MSU student, faculty, or staff member, please bring your MSU ID with you tomorrow so that we can check you in with OrgSync. If you are a community member, you do not need an ID, but please provide us with an email address upon check-in. If you are volunteering with a group or team, please let us know at check-in so that we can assign you to your team’s volunteer location. If you are volunteering with a child, please also let us know at check-in so that we can place you at a family friendly service site.

If you are not participating in the breakfast, please still check-in to volunteer at the Mill between 8:00am-10:00am. At check-in you will receive your site assignment (service location) and any needed supplies. This year we will have t-shirts for the first 500 volunteers. If you need transportation, please make sure you are on one of the designated buses by 10:05am. Buses will have signs for their service locations and will be parked outside the Mill on Mercantile Lane.

Service locations you may be assigned to include the following:

Due to travel time to and from the service site, there is a possibility that some volunteers may not arrive back to the Mill until 1:00pm or 1:15pm. Please plan accordingly. If you have an arrangement and must be back at a certain time, please tell us at check-in so we can find you a site with short travel time.

How to prepare
Dress to volunteer! Wear warm clothing and clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty. Some of you will be painting, cleaning, and working outdoors. Wear closed toe shoes, and bring a bottle of water. We would also encourage you to check the weather that morning so you know what to expect. Sometimes it rains, and sometimes it is cold (please bring a jacket).
PLEASE take photos and tag us using #MLKDayStarkville2019 or #ServiceatState and @MaroonVolunteerCenter

One last thing to note: We are always in need of canned goods to donate to our local food pantries, and plastic bags to make plarn (plastic yarn). If you would like to help, please bring cans or non-perishable food or your extra plastic bags with you to volunteer check-in at the MIll tomorrow and we will collect them there. We appreciate the help.
