Service Dawgs Day
Come join 600+ new friends at the 9th annual Service DAWGS Day!
Service DAWGS Day is an annual day of service that engages over 600 volunteers in community service activities within the local community. On Service DAWGS Day, students and volunteers arrive at the Barnes & Noble Bookstore for a brief orientation and light breakfast before being transported to one of over 30 community partner locations to perform 2.5 hours of community service. Just before lunchtime, students are transported back to campus for lunch and other activities.
Breakfast, lunch, transportation, and a t-shirt are provided to volunteers free of charge! Register now!
Community organizations that have benefited from volunteer work performed on Service DAWGS Day include Aiken Village Preschool, American Red Cross, Starkville Boys and Girls Club, Camp Seminole, Clay County Day Care Center, Columbus East Lions Club, Emerson Family Resource Center, Emerson Fresh Start Program, Emerson Preschool, Gaining Ground, George Evans Park/Gillespie Center, Girl Scouts of the Golden Triangle, Starkville Area Habitat for Humanity, J.L. King Park, James W. Last minute reminders for all volunteers:
Check-in will begin Monday morning (Aug 20) at 7:45am next to the patio of the Barnes & Noble bookstore (next to Bost). Please bring your student, faculty, or staff ID because we will be swiping you in for the day. If you are a community volunteer, no worries, we will check you in the old fashioned way with pen and paper. Once you swipe/check-in you will receive your t-shirt, service site assignment, bus information, and breakfast.
Campus Volunteers: If you are volunteering for Service Dawgs Day and planning to park on campus, you will need to park in your designated lot. There is an open lot at the Mize Pavilion and the Palmerio Center if you want to park closer to the Barnes & Noble Bookstore. Please see the map located at: https://www.parkingservices.msstate.edu/parking/maps/ Reminder that if your site requires transportation, we will be sending you to your service site on an ARC coach. We do have a couple of walking locations but they are relatively short walk from campus and you will be going to those site as a group.
Visitors to Campus: Visitors can purchase an online visitor permit that they can print and display on their dashboards. This can be done through parkingservices.msstate.edu. Your first visit is free, other visits are $3.00 per day. You will need to request a Visitor Parking Permit by going to: https://www.parkingservices.msstate.edu/visitor-parking/ please do not park in meter parking, service parking or reserved parking.
T-shirts, food, and transportation will be provided free of charge for all volunteers. Most volunteer projects will finish up around 10:45-11:15 am taking you back to campus for a free lunch on the Barnes & Noble patio.
