The University of Central Arkansas was the first institution of higher education in Arkansas to offer a degree in Linguistics, and remains the only such institution. Our Linguistics majors choose among 4 tracks: Language (Spanish, German, French or Mandarin Chinese), TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages), General Linguistics, and Computer Science. We also offer two minors: one in Linguistics and one in TESOL.
Students of Linguistics at UCA have formed the undergraduate Linguistics Society-- a recognized RSO of the University of Central Arkansas. We welcome all who are interested to become members. If you want to officially join the society, please contact one of our officers and pay the $5/semester dues.
We comprise a diverse group of people; many of us are interested in tribal languages and documenting endangered languages, others in foreign language teaching. Still others are interested in formal logic, the philosophy of language, and construction grammar. Overall, this group is devoted to all activities promoting the study of Linguistics at UCA.
State membership qualifications if any are required below.
Must be a current UCA student. Must pay $5 membership dues per semester.
