Below is a list of common questions…
What is a Gun Devil: We are a Clay Target (Shotgun Shooting) Team at ASU. We compete in Trap, Skeet, and Sporting Clays against 130 other colleges and universities around the country. We attend , regional, and national events. No experience is necessary; we will train you in Firearm Safety and teach you how to shoot moving targets. Anyone can learn this, but it will take a new shooter about a year of regular practice become a proficient competitor.
Gun Storage: NO GUNS OR AMMO ON CAMPUS; if you are in ASU housing and need a place to store your shotgun, contact coach Tweedley at 602-405-2551 We have a Gun Safe at the Range and have loaner Shotguns if you need one.
Carpool: Students do form carpools to and from the range. If you need a ride send an email out to your teammates. We will have more on that at the meeting.
Competition Travel: There is some overnight travel required for competitions. We travel to Tucson, Arizona 2-3 times a year for ACUI regional events. In October, the Team will send one squad to Ohio for the SCTP Collegiate Championships, and in March, we will go to Texas for the Collegiate National Championships! NOTE: you can pick and choose what events to attend. There is no requirement to compete but, we require you to attend at least one FUN SHOOT. A Fun Shoot is like a pre-season Baseball game. It is about competing, but is designed as a learning experience. Fun Shoots will be held at our home Range Ben Avery; others will be in Mesa, Arizona, and in Tucson Arizona.
What does it cost? Club Dues will be in the range of $100-$125 per semester. Dues cover your Scholastic registration fee, practice targets, and ammo. We do not pay for personal items such as NSSA-NSCA memberships (about $20), shooting vest or team jerseys. A shooting vest cost about $160 and is not required. Some students prefer using a shooting pouch which is about $30. Team Jerseys cost is in the range from $30-$65. Shotguns are expensive and you do not need to buy one, however, if you want one, you can purchase a new Berretta Outlander Auto-loader for about $800,
Other cost and Fundraising: Team fundraising participation is required in order to have your travel expenses, such as air fare, hotel, and competition entry fees, paid for. Most years the students raise enough to cover 90% of the cost. First up is the 2018 Gun Devil Cup. The event will be held on Sept 29th at Rio Salado Sportsmen Club in Mesa, AZ.
When is the first practice? official start date is Sunday Sept 9th at Ben Avery. We will Practice at least twice a month on Sundays from 3PM-7PM at the Ben Avery Clay Target Center.

A general Team Meeting on the campus of ASU is in the works. We will announce the date, time, and location as soon as a room is reserved.
Before students will be permitted to participate, all new students must complete the required SCTP Registration forms, complete our Firearm Safety class, and pay Club Dues. This will be done at our first practice.
NOTE: Students are not permitted to keep firearms on the ASU campus and ASU police does not store student firearms. If you have your own shotgun, live in campus housing, then contact coach Tweedley above for storage instructions.
