Nowruz is a name for the Persian New Year and marks the first day of spring. This festival is celebrated by Iranians all religions as well as in Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Albania, the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkey and Turkmenistan and their people all around the world.   Nowruz will begin on March 21, as the International Day of Nowruz, in Iran and over the world. Since it is coincidence with the coming of spring, Iranians also celebrate renewal and rebirth of the nature in this festival. Here, at university of Calgary, Iranian student association club tries to celebrate the Nowruz by a special event. The purpose of this event is to inform student members of the university community about the core principles of Iranian biggest festival. This event will raise awareness about Iranian cultures and traditions, increase unity among Iranian with different religions and cultures. By celebrating this festival, Iranian grow together as a community and invite non-Iranians to gain an understanding of this festival. We will focus on presenting our cultures and traditions to international students by different programs such as music, speech, and Iranian traditional foods. This event will also help us widen our membership base by inviting Iranian and non-Iranian to join in our celebration and club events. We will also have a scientific section which mainly will be discussed the phenomenon of equinox. At the time of the equinox, the sun is observed to be directly over the equator. We would like to go through this phenomenon with our members and guests. Lots of fun and games will be in this festival for our members and guests.
