In Their Shoes Domestic Violence Workshop
Organizational Information: We affirm and support non-violence in our community. We believe every person has the right to live free of domestic violence and sexual assault. Therefore, we provide opportunities for safety, advocacy, learning, and self-determination. We foster a service environment of trust, respect, equality, renewal, and empowerment. We strive to create a non-violent society by honoring diversity, challenging community norms, and by guiding youth towards healthy boundaries and behaviors. We believe in creating and maintaining an atmosphere of mutual respect, trust, support, and collaboration among staff and advocates.
Opportunity Description: Women and children in poverty are often trapped in abusive situations by a lack of financial resources. Join the YWCA of WSU, WSU’s Women’s Resource Center, and Alternatives to Violence of the Palouse in an interactive workshop and discussion based on true stories of women and domestic violence in Washington State. We’ll discuss the complexity of domestic violence, while looking at specific barriers individuals in abusive relationships face when they are in poverty. Students will earn civic engagement time for participating in this event.
Days/Times: Thursday November 17 from 5:30 pm – 7 pm
Location: CUE 518
A group Record of Civic Engagement form will be available at the event to record your hours.
