Residence Life Coordinator for Community Development Application

Thank you for your interest in the RLC for Community Development Position! Below is the job description for the position.

Primary Purpose
To provide the administrative support for the Residence Life department in the following areas: student leadership, student learning, and academic success. Develop and foster a community congruent with the departmental and university mission, goals, and core values.

Essential Functions

  • Promote student learning throughout Housing and Residence Life programs and provide outreach programming on appropriate topics.
  • Support and promote student leadership and student groups within campus housing.
  • Coordinate weekly and weekend programming initiatives.
  • Serve on the Eagle Experience planning committee.
  • Work closely with Food Services, Student Development Programs, Counseling Center, Recreation, Fitness, and Wellness, faculty members, and other departments on campus to develop educational experiences and leadership opportunities.
  • Oversee the facilitation and implementation of campus-wide programming efforts.
  • Speak informally with residents about academic, personal, or community successes or concerns.
  • Promote student achievement and initiatives through nominations for departmental, campus, and national awards.
  • Participate in departmental selection processes for professional staff, paraprofessional staff, and student leaders.
  • Assist with departmental assessment efforts (ex: MAP-Works, EBI survey).
  • Assist with Housing and Residence Life programs and events such as: housing contract renewal, check in and check out processes, Orientation, and Southern Hospitality Days.
  • Attend all training programs for Housing and Residence Life.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Essential Knowledge and Skills
  • Actively pursuing bachelor’s degree, enrolled in a minimum of six (6) credit hours and at least junior status. Minimum GPA required 2.75.
  • One year related housing and residence life leadership experience required, two years preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills required.
  • Experience with computers, databases, spreadsheets, and software required.
  • Strong customer service skills, the ability to communicate effectively with diverse individuals, and projecting a positive image of Housing and Residence Life services required.
  • Must possess critical thinking skills and ability to handle emergency situations.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality required.
  • Must possess a high level of integrity.
  • Must be able to work with a diverse student population.
  • Must be able to live on campus.
  • Interest in pursuing a career in Student Affairs preferred.


Working Relationships

  • Reports to the Assistant Director for Programming.
  • Works with the professional and paraprofessional Housing and Residence Life staff.
  • Works with a diverse group of internal and external individuals and university departments.


  • Paid biweekly for 20 hours a week.
  • Provided a single bedroom, fully furnished apartment; provided partial meal plan.
  • Work Schedule & Expectations
  • Regular daytime office hours; night and evening work hours and availability are also required (staff meetings, attend evening and weekend programs, assist with crisis response/mediation as needed) and are the justification for the compensation of and requirement of living in campus housing.
  • RLCs are not permitted to work on or off campus jobs outside of the RLC position.
  • Dates of employment: August 4, 2015 – December 19, 2015 and January 4, 2016 – May 7, 2016.

  • Week of February 9th: Offer Extended
