Mentors in Violence Prevention (MVP) is a 6-week leadership development course that motivates men and women to play a central role in actively solving cultural problems that have historically been considered “women’s issues”. On college campuses across the nation, students are being battered, sexually harassed, and raped on a daily basis.  It is time for us to come together to think critically about these issues that plague our communities and campuses. Until recently, few university campuses have encouraged young women and men to work actively together to dismantle the cultural foundation that supports violence. It is crucial that we work together to understand the dynamics of these problems and resolve to changing them interpersonally, culturally, and systemically.

Utilizing a unique bystander approach to prevention, MVP views student-leaders as empowered bystanders who can confront abusive peers and confront the cultural norms that support violence. MVP strives to empower students to create ways that are safe and effective in ending gender-based violence.  The MVP approach does not involve finger pointing, nor does it blame participants for the widespread problem of gender-violence. Instead it sounds a positive call for proactive preventive behavior while developing fundamental leadership skills that look exceptional to future employers.

This program will take place once a week for 6-weeks, on Wednesdays from 5 to 7pm
