The first student-founded laptop orchestra, LOrkAS explores the laptop and DIY musical interfaces as means of performative expression. Currently in their seventh year, LOrkAS has performed at venues such as the MakerFaire, PRISMS Festival, Play! Festival, Emerge Festival, and the Phoenix Art Museum as well as prestigious local venues like MESA Arts Centre. The group’s diverse make-up of graduate and undergraduate students from different fields across ASU campus fosters conceptual exchange between programmers, musicians, dancers, and composers. While LOrkAS encourages critical, interdisciplinary development and creative experimentation with technology and the arts, the group brings these elements together to engage audiences with interesting and unique performances.
