Kickin' It with Kathrine
Oct 20, 2017 by Julie A Onnembo
Kathrine Switzer, iconic athlete, sports and social advocate, author, and Emmy award-winning television commentator, was the first woman to officially enter and run the Boston Marathon. Switzer's entry into that 1967 race created a worldwide uproar when the race director tried to remove her during the race because she was a woman. From that time on, Switzer campaigned for sports equality for women and has created opportunities for them. Kathrine Switzer is relentless in her efforts to empower millions of women beyond the finish line.
Kathrine Switzer will speak on Thursday October 26th at 7:00 p.m. in Comstock Hall in the School of Music on the University of Louisville’s Belknap Campus. Parking is available in the North Visitor’s Lot across Brandeis Avenue from the Music School. The event is sponsored by Student Activities Board, Commonwealth Credit Union, and the U of L Women’s Center.
