Service Project Opportunity

Throughout the year, the Office of Student Activities and Services will post various service and volunteer opportunities. For opportunities outside of the university we are not endorsing anyone, simply sharing the information because we know student groups are often looking for projects. The African Library Project matches volunteer book drives in the U.S. with established African partners to start libraries in rural schools throughout the continent where there is not otherwise much for children to read. We have an impressive track record, having started over 1200 libraries in eleven different countries so far! We are constantly in search of persons or groups willing to organize our book drives. The responsibility is to collect 1000 gently used children’s books and approximately $500 in funding to cover the shipment costs. Further details and ideas on how to get started are on our website, but basically that’s it! It can be a lot of fun, and also a great way for students to learn more about the country where the assigned library is located.
