Co-Leader Application

Education (ED) 20 is the Freshmen Success Course designed to assist first-year students in becoming successful members of our university community. The course introduces students to the role of higher education in society and their role within our community of scholars. Topics cover academic, social, and personal issues that are relevant to college students; students are encouraged to become active participants in making their experience what they want it to be. Co-leaders facilitate a discussion section along with a discussion leader. They are mentors, teachers and role models to freshmen. Upon satisfactory completion of course requirements, co-leaders may receive 4.0 units of credit through Education 120 and will be awarded a certificate of completion.

Qualifications:

  • Applicants must be a current student in good standing
  • Applicants must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5
  • Applicants must be at least 2nd-year students or above
  • Applicants must have the desire to support and mentor first-year freshmen
  • Applicants must be able to manage a demanding workload
  • Applicants must be able to create a welcoming and inclusive environment

All applicants must be available on the following dates and times for interviews and training.

Class begins Spring Quarter and meets Thursdays @ 3:30. Discussion Sections meet 5:00 to 6:15 p.m the same day. *Date to be confirmed
Weekly teaching team meetings will be held on Mondays at 12:15

Note: All lecture times, discussions, and meetings listed are mandatory for co-leaders

January 7 Applications available on OrgSync
February 15 Applications due by 4:00PM  (with recommendation)
February 19- March 1 Interviews
March 6 Co-Leaders selected & results emailed to all interviewees
Week 10 Training Session #1 TBA (target date is March 7 at 4PM to 7:30 p.m  -- we'll feed you)
April 4 

First Lecture and Discussion Sections.
