Welcome to DePaul Volunteers Supporting Youth (DVSY)! If you are interested in a fun volunteering experience and working with kids, then you have come to the right place! Every Friday  the group meets on the third floor of the student center outside the UMIN office at 3:00 p.m. and arrive back at campus around 6:30 p.m. We travel to the Marillac House  Social Center in East Garfield Park and we volunteer with children in grades K-8. We also try to have opportunities where the kids have a chance to come to campus during the school year and see parts of our university.

Make sure to check our Orgsync page for updates on all of the events during the year and contact information. Get ready to have a lot of fun! Hope all is well and hope to see you soon!

Portal Information

Description

Our goal is to serve as a source of advocacy for youth through volunteering. The group primarily helps to plan after-school activities, offer homework help, and tutoring for children between the ages of 5 and 14 at Marillac House, a community center in East Garfield Park. We assist with Hope Jr., the center's program that provides youth with positive experiences at a young age that will translate into positive choices in the future. Volunteers provide after school help that ranges in homework help to lessons in life.

Connection to DePaul Mission

How does your organization live out the mission of DePaul?

This mission statement embodies the principal purposes of DePaul University. As such it is the nexus between past, present and future; the criterion against which plans are formulated and major decisions made; the bond which unites faculty, students, staff, alumni, and trustees as an academic community. As a university, DePaul pursues the preservation, enrichment, and transmission of knowledge and culture across a broad scope of academic disciplines. It treasures its deep roots in the wisdom nourished in Catholic universities from medieval times. The principal distinguishing marks of the university are its Catholic, Vincentian, and urban character.

Our connection to the DePaul Mission is rooted in St. Vincent DePaul's acts of service. We are deeply connected to St. Vincent's values through humility while we remind ourselves that when working with children, we should see them as such.
