UPB Committee Member Application - Fall 2013
University Program Board (UPB)
We are currently searching for our 2013-2014 team! Joining UPB is a great opportunity to be involved in planning a variety of different events for the Chapman community. The UPB committee member experience is a unique one where each member becomes a part of an influential community on campus while providing for the needs of the student body.

Positions are available in the following committees:
• Marketing & PR: PR, Graphic Design & Web Development
The Marketing & PR Committee will coordinate the quality marketing and public relations strategy for the University Program Board including the website, social media, guerilla marketing, advertisements, bulletin boards, promotional materials, blog posts, press releases, and other publications for events. Additionally the team will assess student interests and develop creative marketing for UPB events. UPB's Marketing & PR committee will serve as a liaison to the Panther, Chapman Creative Services & Publications, and Student & Campus Life Marketing Team. Strong artistic and creative ability, communication, and interpersonal skills are preferred.
• Awareness Committee: Traditional Diversity Programming, Guest speakers & Co-curricular programming
The Awareness Committee will plan and execute cultural, political, and sustainability programs that educate the campus community and support underrepresented groups of Chapman. Additionally, they will be responsible for planning co-curricular programming including faculty debates or lectures as well as group discussions. Plan traditional social justice events including Diwali, Holi, Pride Week, Diversity & Equity Awards, cultural heritage months, and One Big Sex Night. Serve as UPB liaison to the Student Engagement Team, Social Justice Council, and Tunnel of Oppression Committee. Relevant experience with social justice and multicultural programming is preferred.
• Explore SoCal: Off-campus Weekend Trips and Excursions
The Explore SoCal Committee will work to program a variety of off-campus weekend trips. These excursions include trips to theme parks, museums, movie theater rentals, outdoor excursions, as well as off-campus entertainment events. The committee will also act as a liaison to Panther Escapes to collaborate on trips. Programs have included trips to Six Flags, Universal Horror Nights, the local farmer's market, Joshua Tree National Park, Santa Barbara, and the Getty Museum.
• Panther Nights: Friday Night Programming on-Campus
The Panther Nights Committee will plan fun on-campus alternatives to off-campus activities. Coordinate a weekly Friday night on-campus program as part of a series that will include live music, movie screenings, open mic nights, karaoke nights, comedian events, themed parties, tournaments, and gaming. The committee will act as a liaison to campus departments including Student Engagement Team and the Office of Housing & Residence Life to collaborate on major events. Attendance at Friday night UPB events will be required at least one weekend per month. Past events include the annual Drag Show, Miranda Sings, Night Amongst the Gods, Mardi Gras, and Movie Jam.
• Special Events & Traditions: Traditional Programs, Spirit & Athletic Events, Major Campus-wide Entertainment Events
The Special Events & Traditions committee will be responsible for coordinating programs that are traditional to Chapman including athletic tailgates, Midnight Breakfasts, Spring Sizzle, and Homecoming Spirit Week as well as one smaller campus-wide concert in the Spring semester. This committee will program new events to instill tradition and promote spirit around athletic events through the Panther Pack and other initiatives.
Member Time Commitments:
Weekly UPB committee member (CM) meetings on Fridays from 1-2pm.
Attend specific committee meetings as scheduled by UPB committee director
Two UPB programs per month.
Participate in the following Chapman events:
Welcome Week (Spring Semester)
Spring Concert (Date TBA)
Homecoming 2013: Sept 30 - Oct 6, 2013
Midnight Breakfast: December 9, 2013 & May 12, 2014
Other major events as assigned by UPB Advisor
