Welcome to the Student Astronomical Society OrgSync Page!

Meetings are held every Wednesday @ 7:00pm--excluding holidays--during the school year in Crawford Building, Room 407.

We are a friendly group of students interested in amateur astronomy techniques and equipment. Our club focuses on astronomy and space-related activities such as observing with telescopes, attending astronomy lectures, going to other observatories, visiting the Cape, watching rocket launches, throwing star parties, and many other exciting events. All students are welcome and membership is free. If you would like more information and updates on current events please go to our Facebook page!

Students with interesting pictures, stories, telescopes, or anything else related to astronomy are encouraged to bring these along to show and tell at the meetings. We also collaborate on many events with both the Melbourne and Brevard Astronomical Societies, two local amateur clubs licensed through The Astronomical League.

The club is very excited to have access to a wealth of astronomical equipment to include Florida Tech’s very own 32-inch Ortega Telescope, along with two Dobsonians, one 6-inch Newtonian, multiple Meade Telescopes ranging anywhere from four to eight inches, and even a number of Solar Telescopes. All of our equipment can be used on the roof of the Olin Physical Sciences Building, the Big Slab Observatory next to the All Faith Center, or at any remote location when using telescope tripods. Beginning in the Fall 2014 Semester, the club will be granted regular access to the Ortega Telescope—which happens to be the largest research telescope in the state of Florida. All of this, and more, allows students to see the universe and be wowed by it!
