2014 GO Team Application

This application will close on March 13, 2015 at 5:00 PM. Orientation Leaders serve as leaders, guides, and mentors to the entering class of students at USF. Orientation Leaders are expected to have a sense of school pride and interest in serving as a role model and mentor for incoming students. The interview process has three-parts: (1) written application, (2) large group interview in person (Friday, March 27 10:30 am- 12:30 pm, Monday, March 30 1:00pm-3:00pm, Thursday, March 31 12:00 pm- 2:00 pm), and (3) small group interview (invite only, scheduled separately). Responsibilities for Orientation Leaders:

  • Lead a group of new students at each Community Group Meetings (total of 3) during fall New Student Orientation
  • Work in teams to perform daily tasks including check-in, tours, skits, planned social activities, individual support, etc.
  • Facilitate and assist with the implementation of Move-in Day
  • Attend all scheduled activities during employment and enforce university policies
  • Perform in Kick-Off Event during New Student Orientation
  • Complete leadership assessment and surveys
  • Assist in disseminating accurate information regarding class scheduling and course registration
  • Advise students of administrative and university policies which affect their enrollment
  • Communicate effectively on an individual and group basis
  • Respond spontaneously and intelligently in a calm and rational manner to inquiries from students and/or parents
  • Assist with orientation related activities in the office during the employment period, including but not limited to: representing GO Team and Student Leadership & Engagement at university functions or follow-up activities with new students
  • At all times during the program, represent the University to the families of new students and role model the USF experience for new students
  • Serve as a trip leader for at least one Fall Welcome Weekend, guiding a group of new students on a city excursion during one of the first 3 weekends of the fall semester


All Orientation Staff must:

  • Be in good academic and disciplinary standing (minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA)
  • Be an undergraduate student at USF for Spring 2015
  • Relate well with students, parents, faculty, and administrators
  • Be reliable, punctual, energetic, responsible, flexible, a team player, and demonstrate strong verbal communication skills
  • Plan to return to USF as an undergraduate for fall semester 2014
  • Participate in all staff retreat in late spring (Sunday, May 3) and final training in August (August 10-21, 9am-5pm)
  • Serve as a trip leader for up to three Welcome Weekend trips at start of fall semester 2014 (Aug 23-25, Aug 30-Sept 1, Sept 6-8) 
  • Work during all orientation sessions in 2015. All OLs will work full time during fall New Student Orientation (August 16-18) and must not have any other commitments that conflict.
  • Sign a behavior and work agreement for the employment period of April- October 2014
