What is Student Volunteer Connection (SVC)?
Student Volunteer Connection is a student organization on the Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi (TAMU-CC) campus that aims to get students involved and committed to community service, and to connect the campus to the Corpus Christi community.
What is The BIG Event?
The BIG Event is a community service project hosted by SVC to help Corpus Christi residents with every day projects around the home and garden. Through service-oriented activities, The BIG Event promotes campus and community unity as students come together for one day to express their gratitude for the support of the surrounding community.
What kind of projects do we do?
Scrape paint, paint, mulch, plant flowers, rake leaves, trim trees/hedges, wash windows, and other volunteer projects coordinated with local non-profits. It is preferred if materials are provided.
Who can request a job?
All residents and nonprofits groups of Corpus Christi are encouraged to request a job to be performed by student volunteers. However, due to limited resources, The BIG Event will only be able to accept a limited number of jobs.
Please keep in mind when filling out Job Request Form:
• Due to the volume of Job Request Forms we receive, not all applicants will be contacted
• Applicants requesting paint scraping must test negative for lead paint.
• Applicants requesting painting must have ready-to-paint surfaces and provide paint.
• Students cannot work inside the house, work on projects that would normally require a licensed professional, trim branches that are near power or cable lines, climb ladders taller than eight feet or use power tools other than lawn mowers and weed eaters.
