1- The LAST Student Organization Make-Up Training- The last make-up training of the year will take place TODAY October 25th at noon in the Lake Michigan Room. Training is mandatory for every president and treasurer once a year. Organizations failing to attend training will be considered inactive. This means loss of room reservations, GrizzOrgs account, and mailbox, and the inability to apply for funding. You can register for the training by visiting here.
2-Make a Difference Day- Join Oakland University and millions of citizens across the country who will come together for the 22nd annual all-day service event THIS Saturday! Sign up now here. The event will begin at 8am between North and South Foundation.
3-African American Celebration Month- The Center for Multicultural Initiatives (CMI) is once again looking forward to hosting the festivities for African-American Celebration Month (AACM). The 2013 festivities will begin on Monday, January 21, 2013 with the annual Keeper of the Dream Scholarship Awards Celebration and conclude with our closing ceremony on February 14. We invite your organization to submit a proposal so that your event may be included on the AAC Calendar and receive up to $300 in funding. As you prepare your program(s), please make sure that your event clearly addresses the 2013 theme: “My Family, My Community, Ujima”. For more information visit here.
4-Grizz Dance Film Festival- Welcome to the latest news about the 8th Annual Grizz Dance Film Festival. This year's 3-day event will take place November 14-16, 2012. Stop by for daily screenings of student films, evening events including a movie scavenger hunt, college premier of an award-winning film (including attendance by the director and lead actress), and the infamous awards reception and ceremony. Interested in submitting a student film, where you will be showcased daily in the Oakland Center? Check out the details of what to do by visiting our website. The deadline to submit is October 26th. Feel free to stop by our table in the Oakland Center, Tuesday through Friday, or our weekly meetings Wednesday evening beginning at 5pm in room 130 Oakland Center.
5-Enter to win $10,000!- Students Reinventing Michigan, a nonprofit organization is sponsoring an annual scholarship competition with the Michigan State Legislature. College participants are allowed to research and write their proposals as a group. Participating individuals and groups are also allowed to be assisted by a mentor who may be a Michigan graduate student or faculty member. . This years deadline for submitting proposals is January 10, 2013. Award winners will be announced on March 15 and have the opportunity to present their proposal to a joint session of the House and Senate Education Committees. The four award winners and their mentors will receive a total of $24,250 in scholarship awards. For more information visit their website here.
6-Date to Reserve Winter Rooms- November 7th is the first day your student organization can reserve rooms for the Winter 2013 semester. As a reminder, all rooms reservations should be done through GrizzOrgs.
7-Leadership Consultants-Does you student organization need extra help or guidance with publicity, recruitment, diversity, service, team building, or event planning? 8-Alternative Spring Break- Do you want to make a difference? Have you ever wanted to become more involved in volunteering, but never did because you never felt like you had the time or the opportunity to? Alternative Spring Break is the that strives to make a difference on our week-long spring break (February 16th-24th). Applications are still be accepted for some of the trips!
