What is SOC?
The Student Organizations Council (SOC) is the governing body of all student organizations at BBC. The SOC serves these organizations through funding and the coordination of activities to promote the academic, social, and athletic interests of the students at FIU’s Biscayne Bay Campus and strives to build a stronger sense of community on campus.

Why should I join a club/organization?
Joining a club/organization is an open door to involvement on campus. You will meet people who share similar interests and can participate in activities with you on and off campus.

By becoming involved, you have a higher chance of completing your desired educational goals because you become connected with the campus. Additionally, it helps you learn more about your major/interest and gives you the opportunity to network with individuals within the field. You will also develop valuable leadership and organizational skills that will transcend into your professional life.

Why should I start my own organization?
A student organization may be created for any purpose that will enhance the educational mission of the institution. Registered student organizations are granted the privilege to use campus resources and facilities, sponsor speakers and host events, raise funds, recruit new members, and receive funding from the Student Organizations Council. Registered organizations are also given the opportunity to participate in SOC signature events like club fairs, general meetings, leadership workshops, as well as the annual SOC special events.

What is required to form a organization?
To start your own organization, make sure you have the following:
1. Three members that will comprise of the executive board consisting of a President, Vice-President and Treasurer (total of 10 members).
2. One full-time faculty or staff member who will serve as the organization’s Advisor.
3. One Constitution that outlines your organization’s policies and bylaws.
